Sean Xiang Xinrong, is a multidisciplinary artist who excels as a painter, graphic designer, photographer, and curator. His notable roles include serving as Art Director and Chief Photographer for the official media of the Shanghai World Expo, and as Curator and Senior Art Designer at the World Expo Museum. Sean is actively engaged in the art community, holding positions such as Council Member of the Shanghai Creative Designer Association, Committee Member of the Shanghai Visual Communication Art Professional Committee, Committee Member of the Shanghai Packaging Design Committee, and Member of the Shanghai Photographers Association. He also contributes as a contracted photographer for Visual China.
Graduating with distinction from the Fine Arts Department of Shanghai Light Industry College and the Oil Painting Department of East China Normal University School of Art, Sean possesses a strong foundation in art education. His interdisciplinary expertise spans watercolor painting, oil painting, printmaking, contemporary ink painting, graphic design, and photography.
Sean's creative endeavors transcend a single medium, incorporating diverse art forms. His works have been frequently exhibited and awarded internationally and domestically. Notable achievements include "Dream Back Home" being featured in the 2018 New York Digital Photography Salon, "The Residences of Chefchaouen" winning a Ribbon Award in the 13th PSAChina International Photography Competition, and his multimedia piece "Dialogue" participating in the 2019 "New Perspectives on Art - Special Exhibition of Chinese and Foreign Artistic Design Creativity." "Surge" was selected for the 2022 Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition, and "Galaxy of Splendor" was showcased at the Shanghai “City of Design” Tenth Anniversary Creative Design Exhibition. He also created the "Gathering and Connection" themed sculpture for public cultural spaces in Shanghai.
From 2006 to 2024, Sean dedicated his artistic practice to serving international events, national entities, and cultural institutions, focusing on cross-media creation, international perspectives, cultural integration, social participation, thematic creation, education, and public art projects. During his tenure as art director of the "Shanghai World Expo" magazine from 2006 to 2011, he captured over one million images used by major outlets like People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency. In 2011, he managed the visual image editing for the "Final Report of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo in China," reviewed and approved by the Premier of the State Council, and archived permanently. From 2011 to April 2024, Sean led artistic design efforts for the World Expo Museum, contributing significantly to its visual identity and exhibitions, including designing sculptures and serving as an art consultant for TV programs on Dragon TV and CCTV
As a veteran curator, Sean has overseen numerous influential exhibitions such as the "Energizing the Future - Special Exhibition of the 2017 Astana Expo" and the "International Poster Exhibition," among others. His "10th Anniversary Exhibition of the World Expo" attracted global participants and extensive media coverage.
Now, as a Christian artist, Sean dedicates himself to integrating art and faith, aiming to touch hearts and souls through his creations. His work explores themes of spiritual reflection, artistic expressions of faith, emotional depth, universal values, the dialogue between art and spirituality, social responsibility, and the pursuit of spiritual aesthetics.
